Sixteen members plus one non-member attended our Annual General Meeting (AGM) at Cross Corners, Thurcaston Road, Belgrave, on the 25th of March at 2pm.
Our Chairman, Richard Norburn, gave the apologies and the minutes of the 2024 AGM were accepted by the members. Our Secretary, Carolyn Hindocha, gave the financial report which was also accepted, then – as per the Trust constitution – three Trustees stood down: Andrew Warren, Christine Warren and Nick Fathers. Christine chose not to stand for re-election, and Andrew and Nick were re-elected as Trustees.
In “Any Other Business”, the Chairman informed the meeting that Belgrave Hall will open during April 2025 but will close to the public from May 1st, 2025. Therefore, the Trustees had reluctantly decided that there would be no benefit in mounting a display in the Laundry Room at the Hall for such a small period of time given the amount of work needed to prepare, arrange and then take down the display. The meeting concluded at 2.45pm.
Following the AGM, Sandra Moore gave an excellent “in-character” talk on ‘Belgrave Portraits, in Words and Pictures’.
Sandra, aided by “Miss Goodwin, the Edwardian school mistress”, gave a talk (illustrated by “the magic lantern” operated by “schoolboy Nick”) about just a few of the lives of Belgrave folk who lived and walked the old streets of the village. Miss Goodwin was a teacher, and subsequently Headmistress, at the National School on the corner of Thurcaston Road and Loughborough Road – although no longer a school, the building still remains in use. Miss Goodwin’s grave can be found in the New Belgrave Cemetery.
Light refreshments were served after Sandra’s talk.
The Trustees would like to thank Kate, the manager of Cross Corners, for facilitating the AGM and we look forward to our monthly talks at Cross Corners which will still be held despite the sad news about Belgrave Hall.
