The trustees were saddened to hear that Mike Smith – lifelong Birstall resident, teacher and local historian – has died aged 96.
After his retirement as deputy head of Riverside school 1990, Mike wrote several books on local history including “THE STORY OF BELGRAVE (The Life and Death of a Leicestershire Village)” which can be purchased from the website or from our display in the Heritage Room at Belgrave Hall during the summer season. The Trustees were very pleased when Mike agreed that the Trust could reprint the book and sell it, with all of the proceeds going to the Belgrave Heritage Trust.
